Verdict - A rehash of everyday news feed that offers nothing new. Skip it.
Charlie Chaplin said "All I need to make comedy is a park, a policeman and a pretty girl."
The makers of Operation Duryodhana 2 said "All we need to make a tragicomic political drama is a room, few politicians and loads of meetings."
How does it feel to watch one meeting after the other and all of them happening in one room with no one heading towards a consensus? I am not alluding to the assembly proceedings, but pointing towards many scenes in the film Operation Duryodhana 2.
The prequel was a run-away hit with an uncanny script penned by Posani Krisha Murali and a power-packed performance delivered by Srikanth. So, the expectations soared for its sequel. And this time it’s Jagapathi Babu at the helm of affairs.

Krishna (Posani) is a ‘hawala’ specialist. Venkatadri (Kota Srinivasa Rao) is a corrupt minister. After the death of chief minister, the high command appoints a young and dynamic person as the CM. Venkatadri couldn’t digest this, so he tries to topple the government and gain power. In a transaction, Krishna’s henchmen get caught and Venkatadri pushes the blame on the new CM. To probe further into the case, a CBI officer Jagapathi Babu comes to the forefront. The follow of events with intermittent hymns of the CM and present status quo of politics form the rest of the story.

The script is bland, the characters are monotonous and the screenplay is boring. This concept has been used to death since immemorial. On top of that, most of the scenes are an advertisement for the present government. The way they talk about many schemes and benefits offered seems like a deliberate gambit by the makers to gain brownie points from the government, or another school of thought can call it a film funded by them.

Jagapathi Babu excels in his role but he comes to screen in the second half. The first half is loaded with meetings, meetings and many meetings. All to combat corruption, but don’t yield any result. They are shown on screen at the drop of a hat. This tests the patience of the audience. On top of that, most of the film was shot in one room with low production cost. When the investigation starts in the later half, the initial part is intriguing, but again the momentum stops when things get stuck to a room and a phone booth. The fights towards the climax were canned well.

Kota and Posani shine in their roles. Rao Ramesh was roped in to bring some forced laughter. The bland comedy, no songs and dragged scenes made the film low on entertainment quotient. Editing by Gowtham Raju lacked the crispness. Production values are mediocre. The background score by M M Srilekha is impressive at places. Nandam Harishchandra Rao failed miserably as a director.

Operation Duryodhana 2 is a pompous statement on the present day politics of the state. All through the film they present the CM as a good samaritan. Barring Jagapathi Babu’s performance and a few dialogues, nothing gets registered. If bloated and overblown political dramas entertain you, then go for it. Or else, without a further thought, skip this film.
